Benghazi –The Guard Ground Station in the city of Benghazi witnessed a serious accident, after a number of citizens broke into the station and tampered with its electrical equipment, which led to the explosion and burning of two low-pressure switches with a capacity of 400 amps, and the injury of one person.
The Ministry of Electricity and Renewable Energy of the Libyan government explained that the accident occurred after the station was removed and an attempt was made to remove a faulty electrical switch, stressing that this behavior posed a great danger and almost caused a disaster that threatened the lives of citizens and the technical teams that were working outside the station to address the defect.
The Ministry stressed that dealing with electrical station equipment requires technical expertise and following precise safety procedures, warning that any intervention by non-specialists may lead to serious accidents and power outages.
She added that the technical teams began repairing the damage, by cleaning the damaged electrical panels and conducting the necessary checks to ensure the safety of the station’s components and restore the stability of the electrical supply.
The Ministry renewed its condemnation of such actions, calling on citizens not to approach electrical stations or attempt to operate equipment and restore power without the supervision of the competent teams, in order to preserve lives and the safety of the electrical network.
