China opens its first consulate general in Benghazi to enhance cooperation with Libya

Benghazi –The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Libyan government announced that the People’s Republic of China is preparing to open its first general consulate in the city of Benghazi, in a step it described as reflecting a new development in the course of bilateral relations between the two countries.

The ministry explained that Beijing appointed a consul general for the first time in the history of Libyan-Chinese relations, in a precedent that paves the way for the opening of the first Chinese consular representation in the city of Benghazi, eastern Libya.

She added that the prospective consulate will provide consular services to the Chinese community, which is witnessing a growth in Benghazi and the eastern regions of Libya, in addition to facilitating visa issuance procedures for Libyan citizens wishing to travel to China directly.

The Ministry stressed that the opening of the consulate reflects the growing cooperation between Libya and China, especially in the economic and investment fields, and represents a step towards strengthening the Chinese diplomatic presence in the east of the country and expanding the horizons of partnership between the two sides.
