Today, Friday, the headquarters of the House of Representatives hosted a meeting of the Office of the Forum of Chairs of the Foreign Affairs and Defense Committees of African Parliaments, devoted to studying the completion of the structure of the Forum and the preparations related to the next session expected in the Kingdom of Morocco during the coming year.
The meeting was chaired by Mrs.Salma BenazizChair of the Forum and Chair of the Foreign Affairs, National Defense, Islamic Affairs, Immigration and Moroccans Residing Abroad Committee in the House of Representatives, during which the final version of the forum’s statute was reviewed and approved at the second meeting held on February 20, 2025 in Rabat.
The meeting highlighted the central topic of the next session, which will revolve around“Water, Energy and Sustainable Development”In addition to discussing working mechanisms among the members of the forum, and submitting proposals to create five thematic working groups, which will be decided upon during the next meeting.
A proposal was also discussed to establish an external coordination mechanism aimed at introducing the forum to regional and international parliamentary bodies, as well as concerned African countries, within the framework of expanding its scope and scope of influence.
The meeting was an opportunity to exchange views on the current challenges facing the African continent, and ways to enhance the role of national parliaments in addressing them, especially in the areas of security, development, and climate change.
The meeting was attended by:
- Kon Abubakar SedikiChairman of the Committee on Foreign Affairs, Malians Residing Abroad, and African Integration in the National Transitional Council of the Republic of Mali,
- Kwawa Vita Rashid MfumeChairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the National Assembly of the Republic of Tanzania,
- Erol Evina IsabelChairperson of the Parliamentary Affairs and Foreign Policy Committee of the House of Representatives of the Republic of Equatorial Guinea.
It is noteworthy that the Forum of Chairs of the Foreign Affairs and Defense Committees of African Parliaments was officially established during the second meeting held in Rabat in February 2025, during which Mrs. Salma Benaziz was elected President of the Forum, along with Vice-Presidents representing the regions of West, East, Central and South Africa.
