Amman– The Jordanian army announced, on Thursday, the interception and shooting down ofEight missilesIt was launched from Iran towards Jordanian territory, confirming that the air defense systems dealt with the projectiles successfully, without recording any human losses or material damage, in light of the continuing military escalation between the United States and Iran.
The Jordanian army explained, in an official statement, that the interception operations resulted in shrapnel falling in various areas, stressing that the armed forces “will not allow any violation of Jordanian airspace by any party,” and that they continue to perform their duty to protect the security of the Kingdom and the safety of its airspace.
The official announcement was preceded by the sounding of sirens in the capital, Amman, and a number of regions, where the Minister of Communications and official spokesman for the government, Muhammad al-Momani, explained that this came after missiles were detected that had penetrated Jordanian airspace, before the air defense systems were able to intercept them.
On the other hand, the Iranian Revolutionary Guard claimed responsibility for launching ten ballistic missiles, which it said targeted a military command center and the Azraq air base in Jordan, considering that the operation came within the framework of a response to the recent American strikes, and vowed to expand the scope of its attacks if American military operations against Iran continued.
This is the second time in less than a month that Jordan has announced the interception of Iranian missiles, after it announced, last June 11, the shooting down of twenty missiles following an Iranian attack that targeted, according to Tehran, an American command center in the Azraq region.
The Jordanian authorities constantly confirm that the Kingdom does not host foreign military bases, explaining that the presence of forces from allied countries inside some military facilities falls within the framework of military cooperation and training agreements.
This development comes in conjunction with the escalation of the confrontation between Washington and Tehran, after the US Central Command announced the implementation of strikes targeting90 military sitesInside Iran, it included air defense systems and sites for storing missiles and drones, while Iran announced the targeting of American bases in a number of Gulf countries, warning of expanding its military response if the American attacks continued.
