صحافة بلادي — Paris –The French authorities imposed a partial curfew in specific areas of the capital, Paris, starting from eleven o’clock at night today, Monday, until six o’clock in the morning, Tuesday, as part of security measures aimed at reducing the acts of violence, vandalism, and looting that the country witnessed during the past days.
According to published data, the measure includes the vicinity of Place de la République and the streets surrounding the “Les Alles” area in central Paris, without extending to the entire capital, in the context of a government trend towards imposing local and geographically specific restrictions to restore public order and protect people and property.
These measures come after a wave of unrest and protests in several French cities, which resulted in damage to stores and public buildings, prompting the government to tighten security measures and coordinate with local authorities to prevent renewed violence.
France.. Macron directs to change police methods amid a move towards imposing a curfew
Paris –French President Emmanuel Macron requested a review of the security forces’ working methods and enhanced assessment of security risks, while Prime Minister Sebastien Lecornu called on governors to impose a limited curfew in areas experiencing unrest, following the violence, vandalism, and looting that accompanied the weekend protests against the high cost of living and the deterioration of purchasing power.
Locorno announced, Monday, October 19, 2026, that the anticipated measures will target specific areas, especially to protect stores and property, indicating that imposing a state of emergency remains an option if necessary. He added that the areas concerned will be determined after consultation with local officials.
In the midst of the crisis, Macron rejected the resignation of Interior Minister Laurent Nuñez, who acknowledged that the police had lost control in some cities during the confrontations, and submitted his resignation against the backdrop of what he described as his bearing responsibility for what happened. The French President instructed the minister to reveal the deficiencies in proactiveness and intelligence gathering, and to work on reviewing the methods of intervention by the security forces.
Several French cities witnessed confrontations, acts of vandalism and looting, targeting shops and public buildings, while the authorities reported that about 2,400 people were arrested during the unrest, and more than a thousand members of the security forces were injured. Commercial interests also suffered material losses, prompting the government to hold emergency meetings to assess the damage and determine the necessary economic and judicial measures.
These developments come in the context of widespread protests in which citizens and students participated to demand improved purchasing power and educational conditions, amid increasing economic and social pressures. While Macron stressed the need to restore order and hold those involved in the violence accountable, the method of managing the crisis sparked criticism from various political parties, at a time when the government seeks to contain the unrest and prevent its recurrence.
