Rabat –The Ministry of Equipment and Water, in partnership with the Ministry of Interior, launched a new national early warning system based on sending short text messages (SMS) directly to citizens in areas threatened by natural hazards, with the aim of enhancing advance preparedness and reducing potential losses.
This system comes as part of efforts to develop the meteorological vigilance system in the Kingdom, as the monitoring network has been strengthened with 243 automatic meteorological stations, while the scope of warning bulletins has been expanded to include all 1,503 territorial communities, instead of being limited to the regional level.
The Ministry also increased the forecast period for vigilance bulletins from 24 to 36 hours, giving local authorities more time to take preventive measures and proactively intervene when necessary.
In the same context, the Ministry adopted a daily communication mechanism with the heads of territorial groups via text messages, with the aim of accelerating field coordination and ensuring immediate response in the event of monitoring weather fluctuations that may pose a danger to the population.
