Algeria:The Algerian authorities announced, on Friday, the dismantling of an international criminal network active in drug smuggling and drug trafficking, in a wide security operation that resulted in the seizure of huge quantities of pregabalin, along with cocaine and a number of compounds.
According to data reported by official media, the police were able to arrest about10.4 million capsules of PregabalinIt is a drug used medically to treat epilepsy and is subject to control due to its effects on the nervous system, in addition to33.4 kilograms of cocaine.
The operation also resulted in the seizure of approximately20 vehicles, including a trailer truck and three motorcycles, in one of the largest operations carried out by the Algerian security services against drug trafficking networks, according to the police.
The authorities arrested25 suspectsThey are believed to be active within an organized international network, while still25 others are on the run. Investigations, which began last January, revealed a network of about 50 people, according to what was reported by the Sidi M’hamed Prosecution Office in Algiers.
According to the police, the network’s activity was concentrated in the western region of the country, before the investigations extended to several cities, where the security services carried out simultaneous operations inAlgiers, Oran, Tizi Ouzou, Blida and Tipaza.
The operation came after tracking drug shipments coming from the south of the country, which enabled investigators to determine the network’s routes and reach a number of its members, while investigations continue to arrest the remaining suspects and uncover all extensions of the network.
