Tunisia launches an urgent plan to secure grain and water stocks and confront inflationary pressures with the start of the agricultural season

My press – Tunisia |The Ministries of Agriculture and Trade in Tunisia announced the activation of an urgent plan to accompany the start of the new agricultural season, aiming to secure the strategic stock of grains and rationalize the exploitation of water resources through dams in light of the successive climate fluctuations that the country has witnessed.

Measures to support farmers and control market supply

The Tunisian government plan includes several field and financial measures to support small and medium-sized farmers and ensure the regularity of distribution chains:

• Providing seeds and fertilisers:Pumping additional quantities of selected seeds and chemical fertilizers into regional distribution centers at subsidized prices to encourage the cultivation of durum wheat and barley.
• Water resources management:Giving the highest priority to drinking water and strategic agriculture in irrigation shares, starting from the dams of northern and central Tunisia.
• Anti-monopoly and speculation:Tightening control over the distribution routes of vegetables, fruits, milk, and subsidized oil to reduce inflationary pressures on Tunisian families.

Tunisia is counting on improved autumn and winter rainfall to increase grain production and reduce the food import bill in hard currency during the year 2027.
