Morocco and Mauritania expand the energy and trade partnership through the Guerguerat crossing and the Atlantic gas pipeline project

My Press – Nouakchott / Rabat |The strategic partnership between the Kingdom of Morocco and the Islamic Republic of Mauritania is witnessing unprecedented momentum at the commercial, energy and logistical levels, supported by the record increase in exchange traffic through the Guerguerat border crossing and the progress of major continental projects on the Atlantic front.

Electrical interconnection and the African-Atlantic gas pipeline

Energy and infrastructure projects top the agenda of bilateral cooperation between Rabat and Nouakchott during the current stage:

• Supplying the Mauritanian and West African markets:The Guerguerat crossing continues to secure the flow of hundreds of trucks loaded with Moroccan agricultural and industrial products towards Nouakchott and West African countries regularly and in complete safety.
• Joint electrical interconnection project:Technical studies are being presented for the electrical interconnection project between the Moroccan and Mauritanian networks, which will enhance energy security and support the valorization of renewable energies in the region.
• The African-Atlantic gas pipeline and the port of Dakhla:Mauritania forms a pivotal link in the Nigeria-Morocco gas pipeline project and in future port integration with the Atlantic port of Dakhla.

The Kingdom of Morocco is Mauritania’s first trading partner on the African level and one of the most prominent investors in the communications, banking and fishing sectors in Nouakchott and Nouadhibou.
