Libya is preparing to open the Gulf of Sirte International Airport

The Supreme Committee in charge of following up on the final works at Sirte Bay International Airport, under the chairmanship of Engineer Kamal Suleiman, Director of Project Management, visited. This visit comes within the current preparations for the opening of the airport by decision of the Executive Director of the National Development Agency.
The visit was attended by a group of specialists and experts in several fields, most notably technical, operational and security. This step aims to determine the level of preparations and equipment before the expected opening.
This visit also included a comprehensive study of all the airport’s basic facilities, most notably the airport management, safety and inspection systems, National Safety Authority facilities and passport offices. On the other hand, the visit included an assessment of the general situation of the airport and drawing a comprehensive conclusion about the latest operational, technical and organizational arrangements.
It is expected that this airport project will contribute to raising the quality of economic development, equipping modern mechanisms for citizens and the private sector, and facilitating air and commercial transport in the country, in addition to improving the air transport infrastructure in the central region of Libya, making it a strategic project that would create a qualitative leap in Libya at the level of development, economy, trade and other fields.
This project falls within the state’s aspiration to raise the quality of vital infrastructure and enhance services in various sectors, especially in the field of civil aviation, in line with the strategy pursued by the state to achieve coordinated, sustainable development by the year 2030 in all regions.
