صحافة بلادي — The eyesPreparations are continuing in the city of Laayoune to celebrate Unity Day, which is expected to be commemorated on October 31, by launching operations to decorate streets and alleys, paint sidewalks and rehabilitate some of them, in addition to taking care of green spaces and public spaces, as part of preparing the city for this occasion.
These preparations include installing artistic decorations and aesthetic equipment on a number of road axes and main streets, with the aim of giving a festive character to the urban space, coinciding with the approaching date of the event that evokes the symbolism of national unity and the Moroccan Sahara issue.
In this context, public law researcher Sheikh Bou Said believes that the ongoing preparations are important in view of the political and diplomatic developments related to the Moroccan Sahara file, recalling what he described as the gains achieved by Morocco, and highlighting the importance of UN Resolution No. 2797 in the course of international engagement with the Moroccan autonomy proposal.
For his part, civil and human rights activist Omar Akhnibila considered that the equipment and decorations that adorn the streets of Laayoune go beyond their aesthetic dimension to carry symbolic connotations linked to adherence to national unity, pointing to the role of celebrations in evoking the milestones of the national cause and its political and diplomatic developments.
These preparations bring to mind the atmosphere of celebrations that the city witnessed during the past year, on the occasion of the fiftieth anniversary of the Green March, which was characterized by the organization of celebratory activities and the lighting of light objects in a number of streets.
These events witnessed the supervision of the governor of the Laayoune-Sakia El Hamra region, Abdel Salam Bekrat, the governor of Laayoune security, Hassan Abu Al-Dhahab, and the head of the Laayoune community, Hamdi Ould Rachid, along with civilian, military and elected figures, the official launch of lighting the models, starting from Hassan II Avenue.
Currently, the process of preparing urban spaces in Laayoune is continuing, awaiting the start of the events associated with Unity Day, amid interest in highlighting the festive character of the occasion by improving the city’s general landscape and decorating its streets.
Available data indicate that preparations include decorating streets and alleys, rehabilitating sidewalks, and taking care of green spaces. Verifying the details of the official program of celebrations and the dates of its activities remains subject to the issuance of confirmed official communications or data.
