GazaToday, Friday, Israeli raids continued on various areas of the Gaza Strip, leaving dead and wounded, amid the continuation of military operations in several areas, while a Palestinian human rights center warned of the repercussions of expanding what is known as the “yellow zone,” considering that this may lead to changes in the geographical and demographic reality of the Strip.
Gaza City witnessed shelling by Israeli gunboats targeting the coastal areas, in conjunction with artillery shelling and shooting on the eastern neighborhoods, including Shujaiya, Al-Tuffah, and Al-Zaytoun. The eastern areas of the city of Deir al-Balah, the town of Al-Masdar in the middle of the Gaza Strip, and the town of Al-Qarara, east of Khan Yunis, were also subjected to bombing and gunfire, coinciding with the incursion of Israeli military vehicles into some areas.
For his part, the head of the Palestinian National Council, Rawhi Fattouh, said that what is happening in the Gaza Strip represents a “violation of humanitarian laws,” accusing Israel of continuing to target civilians and children and imposing difficult humanitarian conditions on the residents of the Strip, calling on the international community to take action to stop the escalation.
In the same context, the Gaza Center for Human Rights issued a statement in which it confirmed that the occupation forces expanded what is known as the “yellow zone” east of the Shuja’iya neighborhood, by transporting cement cubes to the Basat Market area, while monitoring the leveling of agricultural lands in the Al-Shakoush area in Mawasi Rafah, in conjunction with shooting towards the tents of the displaced.
The center added that these developments coincide with the announcement of the establishment of shelter centers in the city of Rafah, expressing its fears that these measures would lead to the imposition of new field conditions and bring about geographical and demographic changes in the sector, which it considered to be in violation of the provisions of international humanitarian law.
The Center also condemned the targeting of facilities and equipment related to drilling water wells, noting that the bombing of a workshop dedicated to preparing well drilling equipment in Gaza City led to deaths and injuries and extensive damage to nearby buildings.
He explained that targeting water infrastructure comes in light of a worsening water crisis, pointing out that water production in the sector has decreased significantly compared to what it was before the war, while the daily per capita share of water has declined to levels below the minimum required humanitarianly, according to data from the competent authorities.
The Center for Human Rights called on the international community to intervene urgently to stop military operations targeting civilian infrastructure, ensure the protection of water sources, and reject any humanitarian arrangements that might lead to the redistribution of the population or impose geographic changes within the Gaza Strip, stressing the need to respect the rules of international humanitarian law and protect civilians.
