Rabat –British media reports revealed that the President of the International Federation of Association Football (FIFA), Gianni Infantino, called for an emergency meeting in Morocco on Wednesday, in the presence of senior FIFA officials and members of senior management, in light of the escalating disputes and pressures facing the international football institution.
According to The Times, the meeting comes in a tense atmosphere within FIFA, against the backdrop of threats from the European Football Association (UEFA) to resort to the judiciary, in addition to growing pressure from opposition parties within the institution, which imposes new challenges on Infantino’s leadership.
It is expected that the meeting will discuss ways to deal with the current crisis and shape the features of the next stage, at a time when several controversial files coincide that threaten the stability of FIFA.
These developments coincide with criticism leveled by the President of the Jordanian Football Association, Prince Ali bin Al Hussein, who accused FIFA of practicing “blackmail,” pointing to the administrative and financial obstacles the Jordanian national team faced during its historic participation in the 2026 World Cup finals, including visa problems, tax deductions, and delayed payment of financial dues.
In a related context, Frenchman Arsene Wenger, FIFA’s executive officer, announced that he would not participate in the project to establish an investment company to sell part of the future profits of the World Cup, stressing that the decision to withdraw the proposal was “necessary,” and stressing the importance of preserving the independence of the International Federation and adhering to the principles of transparency and integrity.
