Warning to employees: Avoid standing for long periods to protect your health from blood clots

If you are considering standing for long periods during work hours to avoid the dangers of continuous sitting, you may want to reconsider this option. A study conducted by the Australian University of Sydney showed that standing for prolonged periods, rather than sitting, does not provide any protection for the body from the harms of a sedentary lifestyle.

The study included 83,000 British volunteers, who were provided with devices to measure movement and collect data about heartbeat and circulatory functions. The results, after seven or eight years, concluded that standing for long periods is not beneficial to health, and may even increase the risk of circulatory problems such as blood clots and varicose veins.

One of the researchers in the study explained to the “Health Day” website, which specializes in medical research, that people who sit for long periods of time should practice regular movements throughout the day, in addition to physical exercise, as the best way to prevent heart and arterial diseases.

The researcher recommended the importance of taking rest periods during the day to move around, stressing the necessity of doing physical activities such as walking or going up and down stairs to maintain good health.
