This campaign comes in light of the cholera outbreak that is witnessing a significant increase in South Darfur, where the state has so far recorded thousands of infections and many deaths. This epidemic has spread at a rapid pace due to the deteriorating health situation resulting from the ongoing conflict in Sudan, amid a shortage of medical supplies and difficulty reaching the affected areas due to the security situation.
The campaign targeted the city of Nyala and its environs, and included sterilizing more than 40 water sources and distributing health packages to camps for the displaced, with support fromOrganizationsInternational organizations such as the Norwegian Refugee Council, with the aim of improving water quality and sanitation in the most affected areas.
