Nouakchott –The National Union of Resident Doctors in Mauritania has threatened to organize a mass return of doctors sent abroad, in the event that the disbursement of monthly grants continues to be delayed and the relevant authorities do not respond to their demands.
The Syndicate confirmed, in a statement, that all resident doctors joined training programs outside the country at their own expense, based on official guarantees requiring the disbursement of a monthly stipend, noting that they would not have embarked on this path without these commitments.
The union expressed its rejection of what it described as the “unjustified delay” in disbursing grants for the last six months to doctors residing abroad, despite the repeated promises it received from the Director of Human Resources, in addition to previous assurances from the Minister of Health during the last meeting between the two parties.
The union called on the Ministry of Health to provide an urgent clarification regarding the fate of these grants, stressing its full adherence to the rights of resident doctors and not waiving them.
It also announced that it maintains all forms of struggle to defend its demands, including organizing protests inside and outside Mauritania, up to the option of the collective return of resident doctors if the situation continues as it is.
