The Spanish government allocates 80 million euros to revitalize villages and small towns. Conditions for benefit and application deadlines

The Ministry of Environmental Transformation and Demographic Challenge in Spain announced the opening of the filing of nomination files to benefit from a financing program with a total value of80 million eurosDedicated to supporting innovative development projects in rural areas and small towns facing demographic decline, until todayNovember 6, 2026.

Eligible entities and population density conditions

The Spanish Official Gazette of State (BOE) clarified that this funding is not disbursed in the form of direct individual subsidies to people, but rather is directed to finance projects advanced by municipalities, regional councils, local authorities, and legally approved municipal groups. The program requires that projects be implemented within municipalities with a population of less than5 thousand peopleOr within the scope of functional clusters whose total population does not exceed 15 thousand people.

Five priority sectors and their impact on residents and workers

The government program focuses on five main axes that concern the daily lives of residents and migrants residing in Spanish rural areas:

• Rehabilitation of rural housing:Renovating homes designated for permanent residence and expanding rental offers at reasonable prices to attract new families and workers.
• Sustainable transportation and mobility:Creating solutions for shared transportation and linking villages to urban centers and areas of economic activity.
• Social care and services:Developing proximity services for the benefit of the elderly and families in vulnerable situations.
• Local culture and entertainment:Revitalizing cultural and social facilities to enhance population stability.
• Rehabilitation of affected areas:Supporting municipalities that experienced forest fires or climate fluctuations to restore their economic activity.

Implementation deadlines and submission platform

Project files shall be deposited exclusively through the “Platero” digital platform of the electronic headquarters of the Ministry of Environmental Transformation and Demographic Challenge before the expiry of November 6, 2026, provided that the period for completing the selected projects extends for a maximum period of 22 months from the date of issuance of the funding decision.
