Mauritania faces the repercussions of rising energy prices… government measures and mounting criticism

Nouakchott: The repercussions of the rise in energy prices continue in Mauritania, amid a discrepancy in assessment between government assurances of the effectiveness of the measures taken, mounting street fears and criticism from the opposition about the limited response to the crisis.

Despite the recent decline in oil prices in international markets,Mauritanian Council of MinistersDuring its weekly meeting, it decided to review fuel prices, contenting itself with approving social measures, including raising the minimum wage and providing financial support to public sector retirees, with the aim of mitigating the effects of rising prices.
