Security tension near the Mauritanian border.. A Moroccan truck burned on the Mali road and warnings to professionals

Bamako –New professional data revealed that the attack that targeted cargo trucks near the Malian territories did not result in the burning of several Moroccan trucks, as was reported earlier, but was limited to one Moroccan truck, according to what was confirmed by professional sources specialized in the transport and logistics sector.

Mustafa Al-Shawn explained that the information available so far confirms that a Moroccan truck was exposed to fire while returning to the Kingdom, noting that the driver and his companion were able to survive without recording any casualties.

The same spokesman added that some transportation professionals continue to cross areas classified as high-risk despite security warnings issued by the competent authorities, calling for the necessity of respecting instructions related to movement within unsafe axes, especially in areas where armed groups are active.

These developments come in light of the tense security situation in several regions of Mali, especially on the road linking the Mauritanian border with the capital, Bamako, where the region witnesses repeated attacks targeting trucks transporting goods coming from West African countries.

According to circulating data, armed groups are seeking to impose a siege on the financial capital by targeting commercial supply lines and obstructing the movement of food and goods, which has caused escalation of fears among transportation professionals in the region.

Recent days have also witnessed the targeting of trucks coming from Senegal and Mauritania, including the burning of two Mauritanian vehicles and the wounding of one of the drivers with minor injuries, an indication of the deteriorating security situation in regional transport hubs.

This situation raises concerns for Moroccan transport companies operating on African lines, especially with the growing security threats in the corridors linking the Sahel countries and West Africa, which constitute vital paths for trade exchange and the transport of goods towards a number of African markets.
