Smara –During the past hours, the vicinity of the city of Smara witnessed the fall of three projectiles fired by the separatist “Polisario” militia from the east of the security wall, without recording any human or material losses, according to the available preliminary data.
According to field sources, the locations of the projectiles were distributed between the front area of the local prison in the city, and the back area of the building itself, in addition to the “Aquiz” area located behind the city cemetery, which created a state of security alert on the spot.
Local platforms circulated clips and photos documenting the locations of the projectiles, while the security authorities rushed to cordon off the targeted areas and open a field investigation to determine the circumstances of the incident, in addition to strengthening surveillance and insurance procedures to protect residents and property.
The same sources confirmed that the accident did not result in any injuries or material damage, despite the recurrence of such incidents in recent times around the city.
During June 2025, the city of Smara witnessed a similar incident, following the fall of explosive projectiles near the vicinity of the MINURSO mission in the Ribia area, without any losses recorded at the time.
This development comes in the context of continued tension in the region, despite international efforts aimed at establishing calm and supporting the political track under the supervision of the United Nations.
It is noteworthy that the UN Security Council had adopted, during October 2025, Resolution No. 2797 supporting the autonomy initiative presented by Morocco as a solution that it described as “serious and realistic” to settle the regional dispute over the Moroccan Sahara, while extending the mandate of the MINURSO mission until October 31, 2026.
