Libya –Abdul Hadi Al-Hawaij, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Libyan government appointed by Parliament, confirmed that his country rejects any practices or positions that affect the sovereignty and territorial integrity of countries, stressing that the Libyan government does not support any approach that would harm relations with Morocco.
The Libyan official’s statements came after the controversy that accompanied the display of a map of Morocco truncated from its southern regions during an activity held in the Libyan capital, Tripoli, where he made clear that his government was not concerned with that incident and adhered to the principle of respecting the territorial integrity of sister countries.
Regarding the internal file, Al-Hawaij considered that the continued institutional division in Libya reflects negatively on the country’s stability and its regional role, noting that the recent consensus on a unified budget between the House of Representatives and the Supreme Council of State represents a positive step towards unifying Libyan institutions.
He also praised the role played by Morocco in supporting dialogue between the Libyan parties, especially by embracing political negotiation rounds during the past years, considering that Rabat contributed to bringing the views of the Libyan parties closer together.
The Libyan Minister also indicated that there are contacts with the Moroccan side to address some files related to visas and consular services, in addition to facilitating the conditions of the Moroccan community residing in Libya.
