The law was issued… but mandates are absent… those with suspended higher education degrees escalate their protests in Tunisia

TunisiaToday, Wednesday, holders of unemployed graduate degrees carried out simultaneous protests in Sidi Bouzid and Tataouine to demand the activation of Law No. 18 regarding the employment of holders of graduate degrees who have been unemployed for more than ten years, about seven months after its issuance without completing the implementation texts.

Martyr Mohamed Bouazizi Square in the center of Sidi Bouzid witnessed a peaceful protest during which participants raised slogans demanding the issuance of regulatory orders, the launch of the digital platform for the law, and the initiation of secondments in public service.

In Tataouine, a number of graduates gathered in front of the state headquarters, considering that the delay in issuing implementation orders prevented thousands of unemployed people covered by the law from benefiting, despite its publication in the official gazette months ago.

The protesters stressed that their main demand is to speed up the activation of the law and initiate operating procedures, instead of simply announcing the legal texts without implementing them on the ground.

These movements come as part of a series of unified regional protests carried out by unemployed graduates in several Tunisian states to pressure to activate the law and complete its administrative and legal procedures
