Between arrest and detention… Where were the facts mixed up in the coverage of the protests?

In the midst of the news circulating about youth protests in a number of Moroccan cities, some media outlets were quick to circulate news talking about “arrests” among the protesting youth. However, informed sources confirmed that the matter is not related to an arrest, but rather a normal and routine arrest aimed only at verifying identity.

The same sources explained that these young men were temporarily arrested within the framework of normal security procedures, before their identities were confirmed and they were released, without any follow-up being recorded or being placed under arrest.

This clarification comes to correct the circulating news that has caused some confusion among public opinion, and to confirm that the security authorities are committed to the law and guaranteeing the rights of citizens, even in the context of dealing with peaceful protests.

The same sources also renewed their call to the media to ensure accuracy and rely on official and reliable data, to avoid fueling rumors or giving an incorrect picture of the course of events.
