Ambiguity surrounding the release of Hannibal Gaddafi: Lebanese authorities clarify the details

There has been a state of confusion in recent hours about the fact of‘s release Hannibal Gaddafi, son of the late Libyan President Muammar Gaddafi, from Lebanese prisons.

For his part, Khaled Masoud, the Libyan Minister of Justice in the government of eastern Libya, explained that the government will make arrangements to receive Hannibal soon. He added that although Gaddafi is out of prison, he is still in Lebanon.

Background of the case

Hannibal Gaddafi spent about ten years in Lebanese prison on charges of “withholding information” in the case of the disappearance of Imam Musa al-Sadr and his two companions in 1978. He was arrested in December 2015 when he was a “political refugee” in Syria, before he was kidnapped and extradited to Lebanon.

Since his arrest, Hannibal has not provided any new information about Al-Sadr’s fate. The Lebanese judicial investigator has not yet issued his indictment. Hannibal currently remains in a small cell in the prison of the Information Branch of the Internal Security Forces. Despite his detention, he is treated acceptably.
