صحافة بلادي — Moroccans wishing to travel frequently to Schengen countries may request a multiple-entry visa, which allows them to make several trips during its validity period, according to conditions stipulated in European visa law, including a record of the legal use of previous visas, justification for the need for frequent travel, proof of the economic situation, and the intention to leave the Schengen space after the end of the permitted stay.
According to Article 24 of the European Visa Law, a multiple-entry visa can be issued with a validity of up to five years, but obtaining it remains subject to the evaluation of the file and the conditions for issuing long-validity visas. Requesting it or fulfilling some conditions does not guarantee its granting, and the consulate may grant a visa with a shorter validity if there are justifications for that.
The general European rules set a gradual process for obtaining long-term multiple-entry visas, according to the register of legally used visas:
- One-year visa:When obtaining three visas and using them legally during the previous two years.
- Visa with a validity of two years:When obtaining a multiple-entry visa with a validity of one year and using it legally during the previous two years.
- A visa with a validity of five years:When obtaining a multiple-entry visa with a validity of two years and using it legally during the previous three years.
These rules require that the applicable entry conditions be met, and the validity of the visa cannot exceed the validity period of the travel document. The law also allows for the issuance of a multiple-entry visa with a validity of up to five years to anyone who demonstrates the need to travel regularly, taking into account the applicant’s reliability, economic status, and respect for previous visa conditions.
Regarding applications for the year 2027, it should be noted that these periods represent the general European rules contained in the visa law, and do not mean the existence of a new system specifically for Moroccans starting from that year. How multiple-entry visa rules are applied may also vary depending on local circumstances and the decisions adopted for each country or category of applicants.
In practice, those wishing to obtain this type of visa are advised to submit a comprehensive file explaining the reasons for frequent travel, such as professional obligations, family visits, or other justified reasons, while attaching documents proving the purpose of the trips, financial ability, and respect for residency conditions.
A distinction must be made betweenVisa validity and permitted length of stay; A visa that is valid for years does not allow continuous residence for that period. For short stays, the 90-day rule within any 180-day period still applies, unless a different legal situation applies.
Reviewing the official website of the relevant consulate before submitting the application remains a necessary step to ensure the required documents and any applicable local rules, especially since granting a multiple-entry visa and its final validity remain within the jurisdiction of the consular authorities.
