Cotonou –The Republic of Benin reiterated, on Tuesday, its firm and supportive position in support of the territorial integrity of the Kingdom of Morocco and its full sovereignty over its southern regions, affirming its support for the autonomy initiative presented by Morocco as a realistic and credible basis for settling the Sahara conflict.
This position was stated in the joint communiqué issued following the work of the seventh session of the Joint Committee for Moroccan-Benin Cooperation, which was held in the capital, Cotonou, and co-chaired by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccans Residing Abroad, Nasser Bourita, and the Minister of Foreign Affairs in charge of the integration of people of African descent in Benin, Corinne Amaury Bruni.
According to the communication, the Beninese Minister praised Security Council Resolution No. 2797, considering that it strengthens the proposal for autonomy under Moroccan sovereignty as a basis for reaching a realistic, lasting political solution acceptable to the parties.
The Beninese official also announced her intention to visit, in the near future, the city of Dakhla to learn about the economic and social dynamics experienced in the southern regions, and to discuss opportunities for cooperation and investment between the two countries.
At the conclusion of the work of the joint committee, the two sides agreed to hold its next session in the city of Dakhla, in a step that reflects the strength of bilateral relations and the development of cooperation between Rabat and Cotonou.
