The Small Palace –An unidentified helicopter, likely linked to international drug smuggling networks, mobilized various security services in the Qasr al-Saghir area of the Fahs-Anjra province, after it penetrated Moroccan airspace and carried out a night landing that lasted about ten minutes in circumstances described as suspicious.
Local sources reported that residents of the area spotted, around midnight on Sunday, a helicopter flying at low altitude after entering Moroccan airspace, where it initially headed to the village of Tagrammat, before changing its course and landing on Mount Goujien on the outskirts of Al-Qasr Al-Saghir for approximately ten minutes.
The sources added that the plane then took off towards the agricultural area, before leaving towards Spanish airspace, amid speculation that it was used in an operation linked to the smuggling of a shipment of drugs through the Strait of Gibraltar.
After monitoring these movements, the Royal Gendarmerie initiated field investigations and opened an investigation to determine the circumstances of the incident, verify the plane’s path and the possible parties involved, while using available technical means to track its path.
This incident comes in the context of the increasing reliance of international drug smuggling networks on advanced air means, including helicopters, to bypass the tight security surveillance on the coastal strip in the north of the Kingdom.
The security and military services, led by the Royal Gendarmerie and the Royal Navy, continue to strengthen monitoring and surveillance operations in the region, to confront the new methods used by organized crime networks in carrying out cross-border smuggling operations.
