The European Union redoubles its efforts to support the youth of Libya: The future of change starts from here

The National Administrative Body of the Tunisian General Labor Union strongly condemned the attack on the union’s headquarters by groups it said were supportive of the authorities, stressing its full commitment to prosecuting the aggressors and those behind them. In a statement issued by it, the authority held the authority responsible for mobilization and incitement against the union, warning against the repetition of these attacks, which it considered a prelude to dragging the country into great social and political difficulties.tap+1

This came after an attack that occurred last Thursday on the headquarters of the Labor Union, where the union considered that the attack was a systematic operation aimed at striking its legitimacy and national standing, and that those who carried out the attack were given conditions by security to reach the headquarters, while the unionists were prevented from crossing towards Muhammad Ali Square, which is close to the headquarters. Secretary-General Noureddine Taboubi stressed that the Union holds the Union responsible for distortion through unjust accusations and attempts to inflame crises, but he stressed that the Union is not above accountability, calling on everyone who has corruption files to go to the judiciary instead of popular trials.

The union’s national administrative body decided to organize a workers’ gathering and a peaceful march in the capital, Tunis, to protest this attack. It also warned of the possibility of escalation of protests, including a general strike, if such attacks continued and the door to social negotiations with the government was refused. The union’s official spokesman, Sami Al-Tahiri, said that the issue is related to honor and dignity, and that union workers will not allow their reputation or credibility to be compromised.

This escalation comes in the context of increasing tension between the Tunisian General Labor Union and the authorities, especially after some supporters of President Kais Saied considered the union a source of crisis during a strike carried out by the union’s transport unions. On the other hand, President Kais Saied denied the existence of an intention to attack by the protesters, considering that the attacks were not planned, and stressed that the people demand accountability, which is a legitimate right.

Therefore, the Labor Union’s message is clear: reject the attacks on its headquarters, adhere to the right to sue the aggressors, and prepare to move in protest to defend the workers’ gains and the organization’s dignity and national credibility.
