Qatar confirms its support for Libyan unity and peaceful solutions during the meeting with Dabaiba in Doha

DohaThe State of Qatar affirmed, on Saturday, its firm support for the unity and sovereignty of Libya, reiterating its support for the political track and peaceful solutions aimed at achieving stability, during a meeting between the Qatari Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdul Rahman Al Thani, with the Prime Minister of the Libyan National Unity Government, Abdul Hamid Al-Dabaiba, in Doha.

According to a statement by the Qatari Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the meeting discussed ways to enhance cooperation relations between the two countries, in addition to discussing the latest regional developments of common interest.

During the discussions, the Qatari Prime Minister renewed his country’s position in support of the unity of Libya and the fulfillment of the aspirations of its people towards security, stability and development, stressing Qatar’s full support for the Libyan political track and the relevant UN Security Council resolutions, as well as all peaceful solutions that preserve the sovereignty of the Libyan state and the integrity of its lands.

This meeting comes at a time when international efforts are continuing to advance the political process in Libya, amid reports circulating about initiatives aimed at bringing the views of the Libyan parties closer together and ending the political and institutional division that the country is witnessing.

Libya is still experiencing a political and military division between authorities in the east and west of the country, while the Joint Military Committee (5+5), under the auspices of the United Nations mission, continues its efforts aimed at unifying the military institution, in parallel with efforts to hold elections that the Libyans hope will pave the way for ending the transitional phase and achieving stability.
