Ben Gvir sparks widespread anger after his mockery of the demolition of Palestinian homes: “I will become bald if I cut a hair for every house.”

Jerusalem –The extremist Israeli Minister of National Security, Itamar Ben Gvir, sparked a widespread wave of criticism after he published a video clip from inside a barbershop, in which he mocked the demolition of Palestinian homes, in a scene that activists described as provocative and reflecting an underestimation of the residents’ suffering.

During the video, a conversation took place between Ben Ghafir and his barber, who suggested cutting a hair from the minister’s head for every house that was demolished, and the latter responded sarcastically:“Are you crazy? I will still be bald then”, referring to the large number of homes that were demolished.

The clip concluded by showing scenes of demolition of Palestinian homes to the sound of festive music, which sparked widespread interaction on social media platforms, where activists and human rights activists considered that the video promoted the policy of demolishing homes and belittled the suffering of Palestinians.

On the other hand, some commentators saw that the video falls within an extremist political discourse that seeks to highlight the severity in dealing with the issue of unlicensed construction, which intensified the controversy over the Israeli government’s policies towards Palestinian communities, especially in the Negev region.

The publication of the video coincided with protests in the city of Beersheba in which hundreds of Palestinians participated, rejecting the policies of demolishing homes and confiscating lands in Bedouin communities, while Ben Gvir confirmed his intention to continue carrying out the demolitions, which he considers to be in implementation of the law.

The Israeli Minister had previously announced that the authorities had demolished approximately5700 homesDuring the last year, he pledged to continue this policy in the Palestinian Bedouin communities.
