French Interior Minister Laurent Nunez arrived in Algeria on an official two-day visit, in a move that carries political and security dimensions, and comes in the context of French efforts to revitalize dialogue channels after a period characterized by a noticeable cooling in bilateral relations.
Through this visit, France seeks to rearrange the priorities of cooperation with Algeria, especially in files related to security coordination, immigration, and combating transnational criminal networks, in addition to discussing developments in the situation in the Sahel region and North Africa.
This step comes in light of the continuing discrepancy in a number of political and historical issues that have affected the level of mutual trust in recent years, causing relations to pass through frequent points of tension that were reflected in the pace of high-level official visits.
