Algeria –The operational outcome of the Algerian Ministry of Defense during the first semester of 2026 revealed indicators that reflect the continuation of complex security challenges, despite the intensive operations carried out by the army, as the numbers showed the expansion of the activity of drug, smuggling, and irregular migration networks.
According to the ministry’s statement, army units were able to neutralize 23 terrorists and arrest 147 people described as support personnel, while recovering 49 firearms and quantities of ammunition, as part of counter-terrorism operations.
However, the outcome revealed larger numbers in the field of organized crime, as 1,092 people were arrested on drug trafficking charges, in addition to the seizure of 730.46 kilograms of cocaine and more than25.6 million hallucinogenic tablets.
The Ministry of Defense also announced the arrest of 8,111 people in cases related to smuggling and organized crime, with the seizure of 856 vehicles, 3,442 hammers, 6,436 electric generators, and 55 metal detectors, in addition to the confiscation of about 945,000 liters of fuel, 726 quintals of tobacco, and 1,160 tons of foodstuffs destined for smuggling and speculation.
In the immigration file, the toll reported the arrest of 9,065 irregular immigrants of different nationalities across Algerian territory.
These figures highlight the continuing security pressures facing Algeria, as they reveal widespread activity in drug, smuggling, and irregular migration networks, which raises questions about the scale of these phenomena despite the ongoing security campaigns and announced measures to combat them.
