The Cameroon national team faltered in its journey towards qualifying for the 2026 World Cup finals, after falling into a goalless draw against its host Eswatini, in the match that brought them together today, Wednesday, in the fifth round of African qualifiers. Despite numerous opportunities from both teams, the players failed to score, leaving each team content with one point.
Despite this stumble, the Cameroon national team maintained its temporary lead in Group Four with 9 points, two points ahead of its closest competitors, the Libyan national team, which is in second place, and the Cape Verdean national team, which is in third place. While the Eswatini national team achieved its first point in the qualifiers, after four consecutive defeats, to remain at the bottom of the standings.
The Libyan national team is now in an ideal position to top the group, as it will have to win against the Angola national team tomorrow, Thursday, in order to jump to first place. In the same round, the Cape Verde national team will meet its guest Mauritius, which ranks fifth with 4 points.
The sixth round of qualifiers, which will be held next Tuesday, is expected to witness an exciting meeting between Cameroon and Libya in Cameroon, while the Angola national team will host Cape Verde in another match.
The competition continues for the top spot in Group 4, which is witnessing strong fluctuations that may open the way for other teams to achieve surprising results.
