Abdel Aziz Al-Sharif, head of the Commercial Representation Authority in Egypt, stated during a press statement that his country is negotiating with the United States of America to cancel or reduce the customs duties that the latter imposed on Egyptian exports last April by 10%.
Abdel Aziz Al-Sharif stressed that this file represents a priority for the State of Egypt, stressing that his country is working to achieve the optimal agreement for the two countries and serves the interests of both parties.
He pointed out that the United States of America understands the importance of opening a negotiating path with its trading partners, noting that this path is based on the principle of concessions and this is what both parties are working on.
The official added that the Egyptian government is responding to some American demands, which are largely related to facilitating the access of American goods to the Egyptian market, noting that recently the condition of requiring American dairy imports to obtain halal certificates was withdrawn, and this matter represented an extensive discussion with the American party.
In the same context, the official said that Egypt is still in a live negotiation phase, adding, “The State of Egypt’s moves are based on achieving the greatest possible national gains in this file by providing realistic incentives while preserving Egypt’s economic interests.”
Al-Sherif stated that Egypt is working to double Chinese investments, which amount to about 8 billion dollars, taking advantage of the consequences of customs duties and the mutual trade war between China and the United States of America.
The head of the Commercial Representation Authority concluded, “Egypt’s strategy aims to amplify revenues through trade cooperation with the American side and attract more foreign capital while maintaining a balance between the requirements of the local market and the highest national interests.”
