Sidi Bouzid –A solar energy station project in the Tunisian state of Sidi Bouzid received a European financial guarantee of13.05 million eurosAnd for a period of20 yearsIn a new step to support Tunisia’s transition towards renewable energies and enhance its energy security, by establishing a plant with a production capacity of100 MW.
The Multilateral Investment Guarantee Agency, affiliated with the World Bank Group, announced the granting of this guarantee to the company“Aeolus”French, which is a joint project between the two companies“Euros Energy Holdings”of Japan and the French “SAS CFAO”, to support its investment in“Sakatak Khabna for Solar Photovoltaic Energy”In charge of developing, owning and operating the project in the delegation of Al-Mozouna in the state of Sidi Bouzid.
The project includes the establishment of a photovoltaic solar energy station, in addition to an electricity transmission infrastructure covering approximately12 kilometersof high-voltage overhead transmission lines, provided that the electricity produced is sold to the Tunisian Electricity and Gas Company under an agreement extending25 years.
The project is implemented in partnership with“Your silence”Norwegian, funded by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development and the European Investment Bank, in addition to support from the European Union through a guarantee and grant within the European Fund for Sustainable Development Plus (EFSD+).
The Multilateral Investment Guarantee Agency confirmed that the project is consistent with the Tunisian strategy aimed at reducing dependence on fossil fuels, which currently represents about94% of electricity productionAnd raising the contribution of renewable energies to35% of the energy mix by 2030.
The agency’s managing director, Tsutomu Yamamoto, explained that the project will contribute to strengthening Tunisia’s energy independence by relying on sustainable sources at a competitive cost, while the president of Aeolus, Hideharu Toba, confirmed that the project reflects the group’s commitment to continuing to invest in clean energy projects within Tunisia and Africa.
This project isFourthWhich is supported by the Multilateral Investment Guarantee Agency within the program for independent electricity producers in Tunisia, after guarantees worth18.45 million eurosIt was approved in 2024 to support the Sidi Bouzid 1 and Tozeur solar power plants.
