Accra –On high instructions from King Mohammed VI, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccans Abroad, Nasser Bourita, represents the Kingdom of Morocco at the extraordinary summit of the African Union held on Wednesday in the Ghanaian capital, Accra, dedicated to discussing ways to eliminate acquired immunodeficiency virus (AIDS) and strengthen health systems on the continent by 2030.
During the summit, Bourita reviewed the royal vision for African health sovereignty based on the principles of solidarity, social justice and sharing experiences, stressing that Morocco, under the leadership of King Mohammed VI, has made the health sector a strategic focus in its cooperation with African countries.
He explained that the Moroccan experience is consistent with the summit’s priorities, which include enhancing local manufacturing of medical products, developing innovative financing mechanisms, and consolidating health governance, which contributes to building health systems that are more resilient and responsive to challenges.
This summit comes in the context of implementing the decisions of the Assembly of Heads of State and Government of the African Union, where African leaders will discuss a road map that extends beyond 2030, with the aim of eliminating HIV, reducing preventable maternal deaths, combating infectious and non-communicable diseases, in addition to enhancing health security on the continent.
The Moroccan delegation, headed by Nasser Bourita, includes representatives of the Ministry of Health and Social Protection and the Ministry of Economy and Finance, in confirmation of the Kingdom’s involvement in supporting African initiatives aimed at achieving sustainable health development.
