My press – international follow-up
In recent days, the Spanish authorities announced the results of a large-scale security operation called “Black Shadow,” which resulted in the dismantling of an international criminal network active in illicit drug trafficking, thanks to close cooperation between the Spanish security services and their Moroccan counterparts, along with a number of international partners.
According to official data, the General Directorate of National Security contributed to this security coordination alongside the Spanish National Intelligence Centre, which enabled the dismantling of a network whose members are estimated at about 100 people, and the seizure of approximately 57,000 kilograms of cocaine.
The spokesman for the Andalusian regional government, Pedro Fernandez, explained that the criminal network was adopting a complex organizational structure, extending from regions in northwestern Spain, through Portugal, to a number of other Spanish provinces, with external extensions that included Morocco and the Canary Islands, which gave the operation a cross-border character.
In the same context, the Spanish official highlighted that the success of this operation came as a result of expanded international security cooperation, which included the United Kingdom’s National Crime Agency, a specialized American agency, along with the security authorities in Portugal, France, Colombia, Britain, and Cape Verde, as well as the support of European institutions, including Europol and the European Center for Drug Analysis and Control.
According to observers, this operation falls within the framework of joint efforts aimed at confronting transnational organized crime networks and enhancing security coordination between the countries concerned, especially with regard to combating international drug trafficking, which poses a threat to regional and international security and stability.
