Arrest and detention…mixed concepts.

The difference between arrest and detention

🔹 Arrest

It is a temporary and short-term measure.
It is carried out by the police or gendarmerie when a person is suspected of committing a crime.
Its purpose is preliminary investigation and information gathering.
A warrant is not required, and can be done at the scene of the crime or on the street.
It may not continue for more than a specified legal period (for example 48 hours), unless it is extended in accordance with the law.
🔹 Arrest

It is a legal and judicial procedure carried out by order of the Public Prosecution or the investigating judge.
It means that the person has become an official prosecution in a case and is being held in pretrial detention (known as “pretrial detention”).
It is done if there is strong evidence of his involvement in a crime, often in serious cases.
It lasts for a longer period depending on the legal procedures, and can extend until the trial period.
Many sources reported that many Generation Z protesters were arrested.
