Moroccan international Nael El Aynaoui received praise from the International Federation of Association Football (FIFA), after his defensive performance during the Moroccan national team’s 1-0 win over Scotland in the 2026 World Cup, where he emerged as one of the most prominent elements of the “Atlas Lions” in the match.
FIFA revealed, through its player performance evaluation index, that Al-Aynaoui made a huge jump of 211 places at once in the defensive performance classification, ranking eleventh globally in this category, benefiting from the highest defensive evaluation in the match.
Figures approved by the International Federation showed that the Moroccan national team midfielder contributed directly to the defensive solidity, after he succeeded in recovering the ball 8 times, and made 4 successful interceptions, in addition to 7 defensive interventions inside the final third of the field, which helped maintain a clean sheet and reduce the danger of the Scottish national team.
FIFA stressed that the Moroccan victory was not only the result of Ismail Sibari’s goal, but also came thanks to the indirect defensive work provided by Al-Aynaoui, which constituted a decisive factor in securing the victory.
