The medical supplies sector in Tunisia is sounding the alarm.. Delay in state payments threatens to disrupt supply to hospitals

Ben Yedder explained that some of the institutions’ dues date back to the year2020It has not yet been settled, while my year’s bills are still2025 and 2026Suspended, which led to the depletion of the financial liquidity of institutions, and prompted a number of them to suspend their activity or limit themselves to claiming their dues to secure their minimum operating expenses.

He pointed out that the majority of the sector’s companies belong to the category of small and medium enterprises, and are no longer able to bear the burdens of the continuous delay in recovery, pointing out that some of them have become unable to pay workers’ wages or fulfill their bank obligations, in light of the limited financial facilities available.

The President of the Chamber confirmed that the crisis has extended to supply operations, as a number of foreign suppliers have begun to lose confidence in the Tunisian market due to late payment of dues, which may prompt them to impose advance payment or documentary credits before shipping goods, which will increase financial pressure on local institutions.

He also warned of a decline in the stock of medical supplies and spare parts, considering that the continuation of this situation may lead to a disruption in the maintenance of a number of medical equipment in hospitals, affecting the continuity of health services provided to citizens.

For his part, the Vice President of the Chamber confirmed,Salim Ammar, that the sector may enter thestage “Force Majeure”If the companies’ dues are not settled beforeAugust 31, 2026Pointing out that institutions do not want to stop their services, but they have become unable to continue their activities in light of the worsening crisis.

At the conclusion of the symposium, the National Syndicate Chamber for Medical Supplies called on the Tunisian authorities to intervene urgently to settle the debts owed to the supplying institutions, warning that the continuation of the current situation may directly reflect on the provision of hospitals with medical supplies and maintenance services, and threaten the continuity of the public health facility.
