صحافة بلادي — During the month of October 2026, the Maghreb arena will witness a remarkable diplomatic and economic movement that combines efforts for a comprehensive political settlement in Libya and the rising energy dynamism led by gas projects and the Atlantic connection between Morocco, Mauritania, and West Africa.
UN consultations in Tripoli to break the political deadlock and unify Libyan institutions
On the Libyan level, the United Nations Support Mission in Libya intensified its consultations with various political actors and Libyan institutions in Tripoli and Benghazi, with the aim of reaching a practical consensus on electoral laws and unifying the executive authority and sovereign and financial institutions, in preparation for organizing presidential and legislative elections that will end the transitional phase and restore complete stability to this pivotal Maghreb country.
These international efforts enjoy broad Maghreb and international support based on the gains of the Libyan dialogue hosted by the Kingdom of Morocco in Bouznika, Skhirat and Tangier, which formed the basic consensual reference to bring viewpoints closer between the Libyan parties.
The gas boom in Mauritania and the progress of the African-Atlantic gas pipeline project
In the Maghreb economic aspect, Mauritania is emerging as a rising energy player after the “Turtle Ahmeem Al-Kabir” field (GTA) entered the stages of actual production and export of liquefied natural gas, and attracted new international investments to develop the “Bir Allah” field and green hydrogen projects.
This energy transition is complemented by the rapid technical and financial progress of the Africa-Atlantic gas pipeline project (Nigeria – Morocco), passing through Mauritania and the countries of the Atlantic coast, which is the strategic project that will transform the Atlantic interface of the Maghreb into a global energy and trade corridor linking Africa to Europe.
