Tunisia –Russia’s ambassador to Tunisia, Alexander Zolotov, confirmed that the volume of trade exchange between the two countries exceeded $1.8 billion during the year 2024, an indication of growing economic and trade relations between Moscow and Tunisia.
The Russian diplomat explained, in statements reported by the Tunisian official news agency, that Tunisia is considered one of Russia’s traditional and reliable partners in the Middle East and North Africa region, stressing his country’s adherence to what he described as a “win-win partnership.”
Zolotov pointed out that Tunisia has become at the forefront of Russia’s African trading partners, thanks to the development recorded in trade exchanges and bilateral cooperation in recent years.
The Russian official confirmed that relations between the two countries have witnessed a remarkable expansion in multiple fields, including political, economic, cultural and commercial cooperation, in addition to the growing presence of Tunisian products in the Russian market, especially olive oil.
The Russian ambassador also highlighted the return of Russian tourists’ interest in the Tunisian destination, despite the continued absence of direct flights between the two countries, considering that the tourism sector constitutes one of the promising areas for enhancing bilateral cooperation.
In a related context, Zolotov spoke about the 17th International Economic Forum “Russia – the Islamic World”, which is expected to be organized between May 12 and 17 in the city of Kazan, explaining that this event will provide new opportunities for Tunisian economic institutions to explore new areas of investment and partnerships.
He added that the forum will focus on promising sectors, including investment and Islamic banking, noting that there are preliminary contacts between the Russian and Tunisian sides regarding cooperation in this field.
The Russian ambassador stressed that his country continues to strengthen its presence within the African continent through partnerships based on mutual interests, stressing that Africa is playing an increasingly important role in the economic and international scene.
