Zurich –The International Federation of Association Football (FIFA) officially denied reports that its president, Gianni Infantino, had made promises to Morocco to host the final match of the 2030 World Cup in exchange for political support during the federation’s presidential elections scheduled for 2027.
FIFA’s clarification came in response to a report published by the British newspaper The Times, which claimed that Infantino had offered Morocco to host the 2030 World Cup final in exchange for his support in the upcoming electoral race, at a time when the president of the International Federation is facing criticism and pressure related to a number of issues within the football establishment.
The International Federation confirmed, in a statement to the Spanish news agency Efe, that these allegations are “incorrect and misleading,” stressing that the FIFA President did not make any pledge or commitment regarding the country that will host the final match of the tournament.
FIFA explained that the decision to determine the stadium for the 2030 World Cup final has not yet been decided, and will be taken at the appropriate time in accordance with the procedures and procedures in force within the International Federation.
This clarification comes at a time when preparations are continuing to organize the 2030 World Cup finals, which are hosted by Morocco, Spain and Portugal, while Uruguay, Argentina and Paraguay are hosting symbolic matches to celebrate the centenary of the launch of the first edition of the World Cup.
