The State Secretariat reported, in a circular addressed to the heads of the chambers of traditional industry and regional and regional directors, that the results of the analyzes conducted on samples of pottery vessels decorated with tar showed that they contained high percentages of chemical elements, includingAluminum, cobalt and arsenicThese are substances that may pose health risks when transferred to food.
The guardian authorities called on various stakeholders in the traditional industry sector to launch awareness-raising campaigns for the benefit of traditional craftsmen, especially those working in the production of utensils intended for food use, with the aim of making them aware of the health risks associated with the use of tar, and encouraging them to completely abandon this practice.
The State Secretariat confirmed that this trend comes within the framework of enhancing the safety of Moroccan traditional craft products and their compatibility with nationally and internationally approved quality and safety standards, ensuring the protection of consumers’ health and preserving the competitiveness of the Moroccan traditional product and its reputation in the markets.
