Lausanne –Today, Thursday, in the Swiss city of Lausanne, the hearing began in the dispute between Morocco, Senegal and the Confederation of African Football, against the backdrop of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations final, in the presence of representatives of the concerned parties and their legal defense before the International Court of Arbitration for Sport (TAS).
Matthew Reeb, Director-General of the Court of Arbitration for Sport, confirmed that the session began on time, noting that the arguments are taking place according to a strict timetable that was agreed upon in advance between the parties’ lawyers, and it is expected that they will continue until three or three-thirty in the afternoon, with the possibility of extending them until four in the afternoon as a maximum.
Reeb explained that the arbitration panel in charge of examining the file consists of three arbitrators, headed by Frenchman Gerald Simon, with German Ulrich Haas and Italian Luigi Fummala as members, and it is the panel that will study the parties’ defenses before issuing the final decision.
Regarding the decision date, the Director General of TAS confirmed that the court seeks to decide the dispute as soon as possible after the end of the hearing, but he ruled out issuing the decision today, Thursday, or tomorrow, Friday.
He added that issuing the ruling may take a few days or several weeks, depending on the time the arbitration panel will need to study the elements of the file and the deliberations before making the final decision.
The Lausanne session comes within the framework of the appeal filed by the Senegalese Football Federation against the decision of the CAF Appeals Committee, which had ruled that Senegal would lose the final match and score 3-0 in favor of Morocco, after the Senegalese team left the field during the final.
Followers of African football are awaiting the decision that will be issued by the Court of Arbitration for Sport, as it is the decisive stage in this dispute that has extended for several months, while additional details about the course of the session and the steps that will precede the issuance of the ruling are expected to become clear in the coming hours.
