Libyan football circles are witnessing protests from Al-Akhdar, Al-Ahly Benghazi and Al-Hilal clubs, regarding the football semi-final organized in Italy in the middle of this month. These protests come after the unfair distribution of the number of teams accompanying Italy, according to what the three clubs reported in a joint statement.
The clubs stressed their dissatisfaction with the allocation of varying numbers of companions between the participating teams in the complete absence of the principle of equal opportunities and without transparent standards or clear controls, and said that this decision made the situation administratively and technically affected, taking into account the importance of this event and given that it is considered a representation of Libyan football at the international level.
In their statement, the clubs stressed the need to urgently address this matter in order to ensure a fair and just distribution of the number of accompanying players according to legal and logical controls, away from favouritism, considering that what happened shows a complete absence of equal opportunities and the principle of football justice.
The clubs hold the organizing committee of this league fully responsible for any consequences that may come as a result of their boycott of the tournament, and stress that they will not accept any form of discrimination or leniency just because they are the clubs representing the Eastern Region.
Ali Shalibek, Director of International Cooperation at the Ministry of Sports, previously stated on July 2 that most of the teams had completed obtaining Italian visas and that travel would begin on the 9, 10, and 11 of this July in preparation for the start of the tournament on the 15 of the same month, and that the Libyan Federation had limited the teams’ delegation to a maximum of 50 people.
