Morocco and Portugal update the agreement on mutual recognition of driving licenses to facilitate the movement of citizens

Morocco –Morocco and Portugal recently signed an updated agreement on the mutual recognition of driving licenses, which aims to facilitate the movement of citizens and enhance bilateral cooperation in the field of road transport.

The new agreement stipulates that holders of Moroccan and Portuguese licenses can drive for a full year in the other country, and also expands the scope of replacing Moroccan licenses in Portugal to include all categories obtained before residency, after recognition was previously limited to category “B” only.

It is expected that this measure will constitute an important gain for the Moroccan community residing in Portugal, by simplifying administrative procedures and expanding movement rights, as well as enhancing opportunities for professional and social integration within Portuguese society.

Official sources confirmed that the agreement comes within the framework of enhancing bilateral cooperation between the two countries in the fields of transportation and services, and developing flexible mechanisms that take into account the interests of citizens on both sides.

Thus, this update adds a new step towards facilitating movement between Morocco and Portugal, and reflects the commitment of the two countries to strengthening social and economic ties between their peoples.
