FnideqOn Wednesday morning, the coasts adjacent to the city of Ceuta witnessed mass attempts at irregular migration, after a large number of migrants tried to reach the city by swimming, which required a widespread alert by the Moroccan and Spanish maritime rescue and surveillance units.
According to identical data, the Royal Moroccan Navy intervened alongside the Spanish Civil Guard to carry out rescue operations at sea, and the Moroccan authorities continued their field efforts to secure the coastal strip, intercept crossing attempts, and return many people to land, within the framework of preserving the safety of lives and combating irregular migration.
The Moroccan authorities strengthened their security deployment along the coast of Fnideq, closing some of the ports leading to the coastal strip, and taking pre-emptive measures to limit infiltration attempts, while continuing monitoring and field intervention operations.
On the other hand, the city of Ceuta witnessed increasing pressure on migrant reception centers, in light of the continued arrival of people who managed to reach the city, which prompted local authorities to demand additional support from the Spanish government to manage the situation.
Spanish media reported that the arrivals were of different Maghreb and African nationalities, while attempts to cross were concentrated in several coastal points close to the city.
Local officials in Ceuta called on the Spanish government to strengthen security and logistical resources, accelerate the transfer of migrants to other regions within the country, and re-evaluate mechanisms for dealing with irregular migration flows.
These developments come at a time when the Moroccan authorities continue their efforts to combat irregular migration networks and strengthen border control, in parallel with rescue operations aimed at protecting lives and reducing the risks associated with sea crossing.
