Marrakesh –The Court of First Instance in Marrakesh issued a ruling sentencing an Algerian citizen residing in France to one year in prison, and fining her 2,000 dirhams, on the grounds of her prosecution in a case related to publishing digital content on social media sites that was considered a violation of the law.
The ruling came after the completion of research and investigations carried out by the competent authorities under the supervision of the Public Prosecution, following the monitoring of publications and digital clips that violate the current legal requirements.
The 30-year-old woman in question was arrested by National Security personnel at Marrakesh Menara Airport on June 13, while she was preparing to leave Moroccan territory for France.
After being subjected to the necessary legal procedures, she was referred to justice under arrest, before the court decided to follow up on her and sentence her to one year in effective imprisonment and a fine of 2,000 dirhams.
This case falls within the efforts of the competent authorities aimed at implementing the laws regulating the use of digital space and social networking sites, and ensuring respect for legal controls related to the publication of electronic content.
