For their part, a number of nearby store owners expressed their refusal to market some of the products included in the increases, stressing that implementing the new prices may put them in direct confrontation with customers, especially in light of the absence of any clarification from the company on the product packaging.

Merchants also criticized the company’s change of prices without printing the new prices on the products, considering that posting notices inside the stores does not absolve the company of the responsibility of informing the consumer of the real price, calling for more transparency to be adopted to avoid any confusion or disputes when selling.

The decision revived the discussion on the need to strengthen price control mechanisms and protect the purchasing power of citizens, especially with regard to widely consumed foodstuffs, in a way that achieves a balance between the interests of producers and the rights of consumers.
